Hove runs west from Brighton along the seafront, and it has a character of its own. Brunswick Town has grand Regency squares and terraces, the streets known as The Avenues are lined with large Victorian and Edwardian villas, and Hangleton and West Hove are mostly interwar and post-war housing.

Many have been split into flats, so the roof is shared between owners. Interwar semis further out usually have clay or concrete tiles, a brick chimney and a flat-roofed bay or garage.
