Homes and roofs in Chichester

Chichester has many Georgian and Victorian townhouses, flint and brick cottages and a large number of listed buildings, plus modern estates on the edges. Older roofs are often clay plain tile or slate, with brick chimneys. Listed buildings and conservation areas have extra rules, so please tell us at the start.

Local weather and your roof

The coastal plain is open, flat and fairly windy, and the nearby harbours bring damp air. Old lime mortar, lead and clay tile take a battering over decades.
